Guidelines

The basic aims and objectives of the Indian Geotechnical Society Ludhiana Chapter are as follows :-

  1. To promote co-operation among the engineers and scientists for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of geotechnical engineering, soil mechanics, foundation engineering, soil dynamics, engineering geology, rock, snow and ice mechanics, allied field and their practical applications.
  2. The Society will accomplish its aim by making a concerted effort to educate the Indian Public about the significance and importance of geotechnical engineering and by arranging to render unbiased advice on problems of geotechnical engineering.
  3. The Indian Geotechnical Society Ludhiana Chapter (hereinafter called “Society”) will serve members in Ludhiana and Punjab state. The Chapter bears its allegiance to the Indian Geotechnical Society (hereinafter called IGS) of which it recognizes as its parent body and has been formed to work under the guidelines of the IGS.
  4. The Society will work for promotion of activities of Geotechnical Engineering in Ludhiana and Punjab state. It will pursue the objectives as stated in the Constitution of IGS.
  5. All the incomes, earnings, movable or immovable properties of the Society shall be solely utilized and applied towards the promotion of its aims and objectives only and no profit on thereof shall be paid or transferred directly or indirectly by way of dividends, bonus, profit or in any manner whatsoever, to present or past members of the society or to any person claiming through anyone or more of the present or past members.
  6. Nothing in the above Clause, however, shall prevent the payment of honorarium by the Society in good faith of reasonable remuneration to any of its members or officers or servants or workers to any other person in return for any expert services actually rendered to the Society.
  7. True accounts shall be kept of all sums of money received and expended by the Society and the matters in respect of which such receipt and expenditure take place, and of the property, credits and liabilities of the Society. Subject to any reasonable exigencies and circumstances, the same shall be open to the inspection by the Members. Preferably once in every year (at least once in every three year) the accounts of the Society shall be examined and the correctness of the Balance Sheet and the Income and Expenditure account ascertained by one or more properly qualified auditor or auditors.
  8. The liability of the Members is limited.
  9. Each Member, however, undertakes to contribute to the assets of the Society in the event of its being wound up while he is a Member or within one year afterwards, for payment of the debts or liabilities of the Society contracted before he ceases to be a Member and of the costs, charges and expenses of winding up, and for adjustment of the rights of the contributors among themselves, such amount as may be required not exceeding a sum of Rs 200/- per year or Rs 1000/- once for life time.
  10. If upon winding up or dissolution of the Society, there remains after the satisfaction of all the debts and liabilities any property whatsoever, the same shall not be distributed amongst the Members of the Society but shall be given or transferred to such other Society or Organization having similar objects as those of the Society to be determined by the Members of the Society at or before the time of dissolution.
  11. No member of the society shall have any personal claim on any movable or immovable properties of the society or make any profit, whatsoever, by virtue of this membership.
  12. Society will encourage the person/engineer/organisation, who is/are promoting the cause of geotechnical or allied activity and will be honoured in the form awards/citations, etc.
