In a unique effort of its own, Climate Change Group (CCG) of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC), Ludhiana under a mission, “To make GNE - India's first carbon neutral campus” stepped ahead to welcome 585 students who got admission this year with a sapling, having a motto “Plant a tree, join your hands to make GNE carbon free”.
Dr. M.S. Saini (Director) alongwith Dr. H.S. Rai, Dr. J.N. Jha (HOD - Civil) and Pr. Y.S. Brar (Dean - Student's Welfare) inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling and encouraged students to involve themselves in the change and adopt more green efforts in there life. He also advised student to plant tree on their birthday also. Dr. HS Rai - Chairman, CCG elaborated the effect of Global warming, and motivated young entrants to professional college to play its role to check Global warming. Faculty incharge Prof. Puneetpal Singh Cheema shared his views on role of trees in controlling climate change.
Event coordinator Gurmehar Singh on behalf of CCG & Indian Youth Climate Network (IYCN) discussed the importance of “Youth participation to combat Climate Change”. Students with great enthusiasm joined hands to make GNEDC green by planting 585 saplings at various locations in the campus. “Our GNDEC already has a large green belt, this will be certainly a great addition to it”, said one of the first year students. Climate Change Group also promised to organise such activities in and around Ludhiana in near future.
